Hey, this is Durey and thanks for listening to the first episode of Pots of the People.

You know, I started this podcast with the aims of creating a space where people can have

conversations that change the world, a space where we can dream again about a different way of being.

The current political moment has created a confetti of crises. There's just so much to look

at all at once, but I'm reminded that we are more than the wildest thing we've ever experienced

and that there's still joy in this world when we can't forget it. And that we all have things to

learn and that we each of us needs to be refill with inspiration. Pots of the people is so

named because I know that we will save ourselves, that there's no savior to wait for, that has been

said over and over again, we are the ones we've been waiting for. Today, we talked to Cory Booker,

Andy Slavitt and a host of other people as we think about this current climate and what we can do.

And this episode is dedicated to Jordan Ervers, who is killed by the Dallas police yesterday.

And now my two cents with Brittany Pagnett, former member of the Ferguson Commission and an

appointee by President Obama to the United States Task Force on 21st Century policing.

And San Antonio Anguei, a data scientist with Campaign Zero.

So let's start with the two pieces of news that are important to you. Sam, let's go with you.

Sure, so the first piece of news that I want to talk about is the Florida Supreme Court just approved

the ballot initiative that would automatically restore voting rights to people who have

served their time with felony convictions and restore 1.7 million voters to Florida, to the critical,

obviously, battleground state. And that means one in four, about one in four black folks,

who cannot vote will be eligible to vote if this amendment gets passed in 2018 with 60% of the vote.

Now says the Supreme Court approved it to move forward to go to the ballot.

Yeah, so the Supreme Court basically said that the language of the ballot is okay,
