This is American first with me Sebastian Gorker and I'm very excited to introduce our guest host for today Triss Regan.

Thank you Seb. So good to be here with all of you. You know China increasingly is becoming a problem if you hadn't noticed so much so that the head of the FBI is now issuing a warning listen to this.

We need to be clear eyed about the scope of the Chinese government's ambition. China the Chinese Communist Party believes it's in a generational fight to surpass our country in economic and technological leadership.

Now that's sobering enough but it's waging that fight not through legitimate innovation not through fair and lawful competition and not by giving their citizens the freedom of thought and speech and creativity that we treasure here in the United States.

Instead China is engaged in a whole of state effort to become the world's only superpower by any means necessary.

Yeah I think that just about sums it up a guy who knows all things China the tremendous wonderful Gorken Chang is joining me right now and Gordon has spent his entire career studying China and the threat that it represents to us do you agree with the director of the FBI Christopher Ray Gordon I certainly do Triss what we've got is a generational fight.

And indeed it's China's existential challenge to the United States. We Americans sort of just sort of assume that our country will continue to chug along but our republic is at risk and it's at risk because of what China's been doing on many different fronts to take down the US.

There of course is what Christopher Ray was talking about which is the theft of US intellectual property to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars a year but this year we have seen malicious disinformation campaigns not only in connection with the coronavirus but also with the George Floyd protests and this year for the first time China has unleashed its troll farms and thoughts propagating narratives it knows or falls.

So I'm going to stop you there because this is now getting very interesting to me. I mean it's always interesting to me and always interesting to hear you talk but given what's going on right now with COVID-19 and the hysteria and the fear about this virus that's from China frankly you know we we have them to thank unfortunately for this despite what they tell us or try to tell us and then you have Black Lives Matter which and defund the police and lawlessness and chaos and looting.

And you know 50 murders in the span of one weekend in New York City etc. How are they trying to use these things to their advantage?

Well both the foreign ministry and the global times which is a communist party tabloid have engaged in those two disinformation campaigns the one about the disease and the other about the protests and they have been playing fast and loose with the truth and they do this to inflame passions and the other.

And then we have a lot of time playing passions in the United States also we see this in connection with other challenges to our society so we've got to assume that they do want to end the United States and so they're for right now.

Do you think that they're behind some of this or that there's a chance that there is any funding for some of these Marxist folks that are you know raging in the streets right now is there is there any connection there to China.

I mean look the reality is you know we don't like it nobody likes it but the governments around the world do try to influence in some way shape or form what's going on in these other countries right we know that and we should be protecting ourselves against it I guess my concern is is there a danger that these protests and this lawlessness and this insanity is somehow being funded in any way shape or form from China.

Yeah there are concerns in that regard so for instance at the end of this January customs and border protection sees 900,000 dollars in counterfeit one dollar bills that were made in China now Trish nobody counterfeits one dollar bills for profit and also nobody can counterfeit in China because it's a fairly sophisticated crime nobody could do that without the Communist Party's knowledge.

So the question is why did these come in one month before the George Floyd protests and come into Minnesota so we've got to ask and I'm not saying that this is a hundred percent proof but this is does lead us to ask us questions also in connection with other things that we have seen about perhaps China's involvement in the protest.

So there's a lot to investigate here and you know as Christopher Ray said they open up a China counterintelligence investigation once every 10 hours.

Wow you know I remember in a very pointed speech vice president Pence talking about China and the threat that China represented and this might have been almost two years ago or about a year and a half ago to our election and you know as much as people look at Russia and I'm not saying to discount you know any of the bots that they're coming.

I'm not saying that they're creating but I don't really think a few bots would actually tip an entire election there's a big difference between you know actually hacking into debold voting machines and creating a few Facebook accounts but he was saying you know as much as you know we may look at Russia China's the bigger issue here China is the one that we need to worry about in 2020.
