The Michael Vary Show is on the air. I'm going to Oh, I'm going to Well, Sheila Jackson Lee, is back in the news exactly the way she wants it.

And she's back in the news for the issue that she seems to care so

deeply about and that is swimming pools.

Sheila Jackson Lee is the congressman from the 18th congressional district,

which means she represents that area,

downtown and then kind of northeast of downtown, and due north of downtown, it goes into the heights. There's a little white part of it, this is the heights, and then it's a mostly white part of it this is the heights and then it's a

mostly black district and it was it was actually created for Barbara Jordan to be a

black district it was part of the Civil Rights Act sorry not the Civil Rights Act the Voting Rights Act.

Sorry, not the Civil Rights Act, the Voting Rights Act.

It was literally created for Barbara Jordan.

And it was created to be a district that would elect a black congressman.

And there was some powerful prominent Houstonians who were involved in drawing that district to make sure that downtown was part of it,

so they would have their representative, and so that the district was perfectly

drawn for her. Then of course Barbara Jordan she had a lot physical problems. I can't remember if it was

cerebral palsy or what it was but she had a degenerative condition. So she

retired from Congress and with her partner went to Austin where she

taught until she died early and as far as Democrats go she's the best Democrat to serve the Houston area in the

last 50 years to be clear

she spoke out against illegal immigration very forcefully
