You have to have a meeting of the minds. An employee-employer relationship is a contract. The employer

says, I will offer you whatever that amount is $20 an hour, $40,000 a year.

The moment that you take that job you have accepted the contract.

And remember in a contract have to have three very simple things.

Offer?

$40,000 per year.

Acceptance?

Yep. I'll take the job, I'll start at this time, and every lawyer knows

consideration. There has to be something exchanged. Otherwise it's just a, hey, we'll see, we'll get together at some time.

Consideration is what binds this contract.

And there's a famous contract case where a pepper corn was consideration. Somebody goes to law school, they will start

using the term pepper corn. They'll start referring to the hairy hand of Hawkins v McGee or the jurisdiction of

helicopters. My wife always laughs. She says, you know what's funny funny you can hold forth on law school
