Summary

Ravi kicks off the episode with a round-up of breaking news: from the latest in Donald Trump’s New York hush money trial to OpenAI's new model of GPT and the controversy surrounding Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and his wife. Then, Eric Schlosser, author of "Fast Food Nation," joins the show to discuss his new documentary, "Food, Inc. 2." They dive into everything from the consolidation and corporate power in the food industry, the role of government subsidies in supporting factory farms, and the negative impact on small and medium-sized farmers to the need for stronger antitrust enforcement and getting money out of politics to address these issues. Welcome to The Lost Debate Show for Politically Ecclectics. I'm Robbie Gupta. And in a little bit,

0:05.2

we're going to have on Eric Schlosser for one of my favorite interviews we have ever done.

0:10.1

Eric is the author of Fast Food Nation, a book that many ways changed my life. Reef for Madness.

0:16.8

He is the producer of Food Incorporated and then Food Incorporated, too, which just came out.

0:21.3

And we talk all about the food industry, antitrust issues within the meatpacking industry and food industry generally, just where food comes from, and a whole bunch of other things.

0:30.7

And so I'm excited for that interview.

0:32.1

Before we get there, let's talk about some breaking items.

0:35.3

This morning, Donald Trump's defense team rested its case in the hush money trial,

0:40.1

and Trump opted not to testify, which is not surprising, not because it's him, but because people

0:45.0

tend not to testify unless they really have to. His lawyers really presented one witness,

0:50.0

a guy named Bob Costello, who was there to impeach the credibility of Cohen, and things got

0:56.0

testy with him, but we won't go into that because we've done a lot on that trial.

1:00.3

The judge has sent the jury away.

1:01.9

They'll come back on Tuesday for closing arguments, which means we'll potentially get a

1:06.6

verdict next week or most likely the week after, which is incredible to think about that we're

1:12.2

now reaching the end of that trial, which will probably be the sole criminal trial that happens

1:17.1

before the election. What's going to happen? Nobody knows the people who are in the courtroom

1:23.0

who could read the jury body language and just see how like the arguments are going down at a

1:29.0

sort of tactile level in there probably have a little bit more to say than than anybody else.

1:34.5

The problem is there's so much baggage around this case where, you know, people who are covering

1:39.1

this either really want to see Trump go to prison or really, really don't. And so I think

1:44.0

we're left here with sort of
