Summary

Jim and A.Ron saw Alita: Battle Angel tonight, and declare it a mess, albeit a beautiful, groundbreaking one in terms of effects work. This feels like the first half of the third part of a movie trilogy; everything is mysterious, nothing makes sense, the world is being built hastily and right in front of our eyes, and the movie ends right at the beginning of what promised to be a kick ass third act. But if you want to see what state of the art CG looks like in 2019, this is a shining $170 million example. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

0:21.1

Mahershala Ali. a bunch of other people. Mehercilla Ali, Rosa Salazar was the main, I guess the voice work of the main

0:29.4

CGI character. It also featured a bunch of other people like Jennifer Connolly, Ed Screen.

0:37.0

Ed Norton? I think so. I think Ed Norton makes it makes an appearance here Jim what did you think of this this movie

0:48.0

Let's start with the thing thing that I liked about it and I don't even know if I can pluralize that word but the thing that I liked most

0:55.8

about this movie is the animation I think it's really well done a lot of the

0:59.7

action scenes are good. It felt it felt pretty natural unlike some other animated stuff that I've

1:08.6

seen. Yeah I think that there's a little bit of an uncanny valley kind of thing going on with some of this motion capture combat, but I so close.

1:19.4

It's so close.

1:20.4

It's really good and I thought I've there is definite a step forward being made in the

1:28.8

C. G of this movie like it there are things that I have never kind of seen the like of before

1:36.6

and it's very heavy on the c. There's a lot of it. Yeah this movie I just

1:41.8

looked at its budget was over 170 million dollars.

1:45.0

They spent a lot of money and it's all there on the screen.

1:49.0

They spent 169 99995 on C. G. Yes, and they have one dollar left over to try to write a script out of this thing because unfortunately I felt like that I was watching the third movie in an epic trilogy and also a third movie where they did that bullshit thing where they took the movie and broke it in half so they can make four movies instead of three.

2:15.8

And I hadn't seen the movies one or two and the thing ended right in the middle of the last movie.

2:22.2

I couldn't I couldn't figure out what the

2:24.8

fuck was going on this this they're they're trying to do some world building it

2:29.0

doesn't really work everything was very confusing. Yeah, yeah.

2:35.0

Ultimately, like the world building they do is kind of boring and almost cliche in a lot of ways.
