0:14.8 | Pastor Beg, I wanted to ask you maybe just what your advice or counsel or general input would be for young people today. |
0:27.7 | And when I say young people, I think I'm thinking of both teenagers, young adults, people in their 20s, people my age, I'm 30. |
0:35.4 | And so you can throw a lot of ages under that general category. |
0:38.3 | But what are things maybe that you see in our contemporary climate that you would warn against or caution young people against? |
0:46.3 | What are things that you see even in the lives of your grandchildren that you would go, hey, I wouldn't want you to be mindful of this, things you see in your church. |
0:55.6 | What would just be your input for young people today? |
0:59.7 | Well, that's a wide spectrum, yeah. |
1:04.6 | Well, just really talking off the top of my head, |
1:09.3 | the question of identity for young people |
1:11.6 | is so huge, you know, who am I? |
1:14.6 | And why do I matter if I matter at all? |
1:18.6 | And on what basis do I have significance? |
1:22.6 | Is it my, are my looks, my family background, my possessions? |
1:32.3 | And the world of social media that I am not, I am a participant in, |
1:40.3 | but a reluctant participant in many ways is something that I never had to deal with when I was a child, when I was a teenager. |
1:50.7 | You know, there was very little influence outside of your immediate circle of friends. |
1:56.7 | But now I notice that young people are constantly preoccupied with whether they are quotes being liked or defriended or whatever it is they do to one another, which seems to me particularly for young girls to be a huge pressure. |
2:12.6 | And so one of the things we want to be able to do is to show how it is that our identity is found in Jesus and in what |
2:22.0 | he's done and that the plans and purposes that he has for us transcend many many of these things. |
