A married couple were returning back to Portsmouth after vacationing in Niagara Falls in Montreal.

It was supposed to be a road trip just like any other.

But it was far from that in the end.

In fact, the event became such a widely reported incident that it earned its own place in history.

This is a story of their alien abduction.

Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple from Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

He worked for the U.S. Postal Service, and she was a social worker.

Both were known as community leaders and positive contributors to society through their

various positions held in several important organizations.

On the night of September 19, 1961,

at around 10.30 p.m., the hills were driving back home.

But as it hit an area just south of Lancaster,

Betty noticed something in the sky.

A bright point of light kept moving from below the moon and upward to the west side of it.

She figured it was a falling star.

But upon noticing that the star was getting brighter and was moving upward,

she asked Barney to stop the car by a scenic point around Twin Mountain.

They had their dog with them and they figured he could use a short walk as well.

Plus, Betty really wanted to have a better look at the strange light in the sky.

Pulling out their binoculars, Barney asked to have a look.
