Summary

Originally released several months ago for super-listeners. This is the sort of episode you get as part of being a listener as well as a lot of others as well as ad free listening and much more. Sign up here: https://www.patreon.com/c/Footballforkids In this episode of the Football for Kids Podcast, I take a look at the career so far of Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho. Born in Madrid to an Argentine mother and Spanish father, Garnacho was always likely to be influenced by both footballing cultures. I go back to his early days at Getafe and Atlético Madrid, and follow his move to Manchester United’s youth academy. A standout goal in the FA Youth Cup caught attention, and not long after, he made his senior debut at just 17 years old. I also talk through some of Garnacho’s big moments, including a memorable bicycle kick against Everton, and the role he’s played under manager Erik ten Hag. With over 100 appearances already, he’s made a strong start to his career. There’s more to come from Garnacho, but here’s where it all began. Learn more about your ad choices. Hello and welcome to the Football for Kits podcast with me, Darren Riss.

0:26.2

It's time for another Patreon and Apple Podcast subscriber only episode.

0:32.6

This time we're doing an episode on a player who is definitely going to become a big name in the

0:39.7

sport of football. And that of course is the Argentinian slash Spanish Manchester United

0:47.6

player Alejandro Garnacho. So as this is a super listener episode, we don't do any shoutouts.

0:57.8

We just get straight in to the episode.

1:01.2

Now, in the start of this episode, in the intro, you heard me say the Argentinian slash Spanish

1:08.0

Manchester United player Garnacho.

1:10.6

The reason I said that is because, well, two things really.

1:15.0

Firstly, Garnacho was actually born in Madrid in Spain on the 1st of July in 2004.

1:22.9

And he was born to an Argentine mother and a Spanish father.

1:28.3

Garnacho has always been inspired by the Argentinian style of football and football as a whole, especially as his father was a footballer as well.

1:38.3

He didn't make it anywhere near the level that Garnacho has already, but it said that he was a decent footballer with

1:44.9

a great passion for the game.

1:47.4

Garnacho was close to his father when he was growing up.

1:50.4

They had a connection with the beautiful game, but he was also extremely close with his mother,

1:55.4

who he feels has done so much for him and helping him get to where he has in his career.

2:03.2

Garnacho could have played for Spain, but he was always inspired by the Argentinian style of playing football. He loved the

2:09.1

flair that the likes of Diego Maradonna had and the way that Messi could change angles at incredible

2:14.6

speed. However, a player who wasn't from Argentina, who he absolutely

2:20.0

loved from the moment he set eyes on, was of course Cristiano Ronaldo, whom he eventually

2:26.8

went on to play with, and I'm sure you've seen Garnacho's celebrations and he does
