I'm John Batchel with Bill Rajo, my colleague and co-host, and we're very pleased to be welcoming

General Blainehold, United States Air Force, retired.

We begin with the Ukraine conflict, but I turn to the larger understanding of what the U.S. Air Force is learning,

observing the Financial Times piece in these hours, and in general what they have from the battlefield,

is this the future of air war. Blaine, history, 1942, Coral Sea, then Midway. What we learned,

I thought, at the time was the attacker has the great advantage in an air war, hit them first,

hit their base. In that case, it would be the carriers. When those four carriers, three

were destroyed at once, one later in the day of the Japanese Quito Battai, when those were

destroyed, the Japanese had lost their ability to produce the aircraft that was overwhelmingly

the U.S. Navy and Marine forces in the Pacific. Therefore, that suggests the Air Force must come up with a plan that matches the success of the

air war in the Pacific.

That would suggest that they have to hit not the drones coming in, but the manufacturing
