Hey, Desirman listeners, I've been receiving a lot of questions about AI psychosis or using AI chatbots,

0:08.3

LLMs like chatGBT and having problems with it. So let's get into it. I also want to talk about

0:15.5

its use as a therapy tool for better for worse. My name is Dr. Kirk Honda. I'm a therapist and I'm also a

0:23.4

professor. And at the start here, I want to acknowledge that I received emails from patron Michael

0:29.3

from Ireland and also annual highest tier patron and YouTube member, Sandra from Calgary. Both of them

0:37.0

motivated me to talk about this because

0:40.3

they both say that there are numerous articles and accounts of people having problematic use of

0:47.3

AI and lots of talk about AI psychosis. And I recently did a reaction video series to the TikToker named Kendra,

0:59.3

who posted a very viral video series on TikTok titled, I Fell in Love with My Psychiatrist,

1:05.9

because she also would talk about her very intimate relationship with two chatbox that she had named.

1:14.7

One was Henry and the other one was Claude.

1:17.2

And she would do lives where she would interact with these chatbots who from the clips that I saw were very supportive of her what seemed to be very, she seemed to be

1:31.3

very distorted in her view. If you, you know, if you listen to those episodes or watch those

1:36.2

videos, you know, the situation. And that her relationship with AI seemed to exacerbate

1:43.4

the problems that she was potentially suffering from.

1:46.6

It's hard to know from a TikTok video series.

1:48.7

But anyway, so the first thing that I'll say is that we need to be cautious when we are listening to anecdotal data.

1:58.6

You know, I'm old enough to have been through a lot of phases of this,

2:03.6

like when social media first became popular, there was a lot of anecdotes of people having

2:10.2

problems with mental health. Now, does that mean that we discount it because it's anecdotal?

2:16.0

No, but we just have to be careful about it because

2:19.4

it's not sound data. It's not, you know, controlled for. It's just people telling their stories.
