So the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice just announced a third

investigation into the practices of a major city police department. Why is that

Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice just announced that it was

launching a third pattern or practice investigation into the conduct of a

major city police department. This time, Phoenix, Arizona. DOJ is already conducting

pattern or practice investigations into the Minneapolis Police Department,

into the Louisville Police Department, and now it's adding a third. This is a

hat trick of pattern or practice investigations. This time it's the Phoenix

Police Department. And friends, these investigations are really important. Here

is some of the reporting about DOJ's announcement. This headline from CNBC,

Justice Department investigating Phoenix police practices, including use of

deadly force in Civil Rights probe. And DOJ issued its own press release announcing

this investigation. And here is part of what the Department of Justice says. This

investigation will assess all types of use of force by Phoenix police officers,

including deadly force. The investigation will also seek to determine whether

Phoenix police department engages in retaliatory activity against people for

conduct protected by the First Amendment, as well as whether Phoenix police

department engages in discriminatory policing. And whether the Phoenix police

department unlawfully ceases or disposes of the belongings of individuals
