and I get to cap it all off today with a giant of fantasy horror and speculative fiction.

Some of the most indelible moments as a reader for me have come at the hands of today's

author.

Now, I doubt if you need me to tell you who Stephen King is.

He has written and continues to write some of the most popular books in American fiction.

I mean the shiny, misery, it, carry, the stand, plus just dreams of short fiction.

The story that I am going to read today was originally published in Ten House and appears

in Stephen King's short fiction collection, The Bizarre of Bad Dreams.

Now, I've read a couple of stories this season that in my opinion grapple with our human

desire for control in our lives.

The choices we wish we could have made in the past are the choices we wish we could make

in the future.

I'm thinking of the wishing pool, about a woman who makes wishes that are granted but

never come out quite right.

Different people about arriving in an alternate version of the world we know and trying to

change the actions and outcomes of our original world.
