Hi everybody, Cheryl Ackison here. Welcome to another edition of full measure after hours.

Today we're going to run down a disturbing list of terrorist attacks and mass killings in the US,

where there are allegations that the FBI had some type of advanced warning, but missed the opportunity to save lives.

The topic of my cover story, this Sunday on full measure, January 16th, is what I call the FBI's big misses.

And by that I mean the numerous attacks by killers, whether Islamic extremist terrorists, or white supremacists, all in the US,

where we later learned that the FBI seemed to have information that it could have used to prevent the murders.

The resources I found during my research that had tried to track these incidents were not comprehensive, so I did a lot of digging,

and I came up with my own list of probably the top incidents in the past decade and a half or so.

And right now I'm going to go into depth with a few of them.

In a way I think it could be said that this story or this topic really begins on November 5th, 2009.

That's when a US Army psychiatrist named Nida Hassan opened fire at Fort Hood, Texas.

He murdered 13 people who ranged in age from his youngest 19 to his oldest 62.

And he wounded another 42 people.

It was the deadliest terrorist attack in the US since 9-11 and the deadliest mass shooting on an American military base.

By the way Hassan was shot and paralyzed from the waist down during this as people tried to subdue him.

But really adding to the horror when pieces were put into place after the fact, the FBI had been looking at Hassan

due to some chilling communications he had about suicide bombings with a top al-Qaeda terrorist.
