Summary

On this episode of Cool Facts About Animals, we get to our next listener request: the African Wild Dog (thanks Ingram!). These dogs are so neat - they are very social, they vote by doing something super weird, and they sometimes kidnap their pups. Yup, it's a cool one. Thanks for the suggestion, Ingram! Today we are doing a special listener request. This one comes from Ingram. He's six years old, and he lives in Rhode Island all the way across the country from us.

0:25.3

We were really excited to get his request because he requested the African wild dog,

So Theo, can you help us out by talking about what they look like?

0:51.3

So they have big ears and a white tail and spots.

1:01.0

Lots of spots. They're sort of brown, black and white spotted.

1:04.0

They actually look quite a bit like what you might see in your own house or maybe at a neighbor's house, like a medium-sized dog,

1:14.7

other than the coloring and the big ears. They definitely look like dogs.

1:20.0

We're going to start out by talking about how social these animals are. So, Grady, do they tend to live by themselves? They live in packs. Yeah, and tell me about the packs.

1:25.8

There can be at a 28 who are a tiny bit more.

1:29.0

So they can be a pretty big pack.

1:31.4

And how does the hierarchy work?

1:34.8

High work.

1:35.8

Is there a structure to the pack?

1:38.3

There's an alpha male and an alpha female.

1:40.9

So what does that mean in alpha male?

1:42.8

It means that they're the highest grade. So kind of that mean in alpha male? It means that they're the highest, like, grade.
