former ambassador from Pakistan to the United States.

Gentlemen, we have a political crisis at home

repeatedly in an election year. At same time we're remembering Afghanistan.

There is however a new report from the Republican-dominated House of the Biden administration's conduct with regard the withdrawal

in August of 2021. Bill, you and I have discussed Afghanistan long enough. We were

younger men when we started decades to know that the trouble in

Afghanistan didn't start in August of 2021. Where would you place the mark on the

calendar bill as to when the United States

started to fumble its so-called War on Terror in Afghanistan? Good evening to

you, Bill. Good evening, John.

Yeah, that's a great question.

And there's several points, but I think, look, the Bush administration made structural errors

with the establishment of the Afghan government and how it built the Afghan military.

But I felt those problems were correctable over time.

To me, the real failure began when the political elite decided it was time to leave Afghanistan.

That began under the Obama administration. It was carried through under the

Trump administration.

So that once the US decided to leave Afghanistan, I don't think people really understand that once that decision is made, really everything else winning what we're going to leave behind. That's all secondary. It all becomes secondary to the actual
