Bill the State Department report, finally declassified, has a section called Crisis Operations.

This is after the mistakes of retreating from the Taliban of a banding buggerahm.

And not having sufficient military personnel to handle using the airport in the center of

town surrounded by the Taliban, all those mistakes.

But we come to the actual conduct of the embassy in Kabul.

The report is very clear that there was no plan in place, that what happened was spontaneous.

They even used the word heroic to explain how people were on their own or making things

up. And they were being overwhelmed by calls, direct phone calls from veterans from Afghanistan,

from State Department people around the world saying, can you get to and then naming

individuals who needed to be evacuated?

What do we learn from this report about those days that we reported on at the time, Bill?

Yes, John. I think what we see from this report is, and it's not fresh.

In the sense, we understood that the State Department wasn't prepared for admitting it.

That's what's really fresh here.

The, we saw the flight should have been clear to everyone by mid late June.

That Afghanistan was prepared to collapse.

I predicted the Afghan government would make it out by the end of the summer.
