Hi, this is Against Everyone with Connor Abeeb, a weekly podcast featuring my conversations with countercultural figures and presenting complex, philosophical, political, and spiritual ideas in an engaging and accessible way.

This week's episode is a special episode. It's a live recording of an event I did in Belfast, so it's the first

against everyone live event. And we recorded at the Wake Festival in Belfast, which is a

theology and political theory and theological festival that happens every year. My guests

are Peter Rollins, theologian, philosopher, and writer. He's been on the show

twice before. And Todd McGowan, psychoanalytic critic and film studies professor and also host of

the podcast Y Theory. And Todd's been on the show before as well. There's a Q&A after our discussion, so you get to listen to the audience

responding to. I'd love to have more Q&As. I'm going to lay out, though, some of the differences

in this show and some of the friction that came up for me. It was friendly friction, which I guess

that sounds sexual, but it was friendly friction

because Peter and I are very close friends, and Todd and I are also friends, becoming friends.

So, you know, we didn't go away disliking each other or anything, but that's an odd thing

for the show because I really try to keep this show

sort of centered around in principle of resonance. What is it that you said as the guest to me

that made me think of this rather than, oh, I don't agree with that, I don't agree with that.

This is what I really think is the truth. What is it that the guest says, or that I say

to the guest that we can pick up and move forward with? But that is not the case in this episode,

because there are some fundamental differences between the way I think and the way that Peter and

Todd think. Now, interestingly, this event was really mostly in front of Peter's audience,

because the festival is set up by Peter with a few other people and focuses on the work that he's

really interested in. And Peter and Todd are really kind of on the same page, whereas I have a lot of

different views,
