Adam is a super nice guy. Someone I've gotten to know over the years. His TED Talks have been seen millions and millions of times. His books have sold millions and millions of copies.

He has a BA from Harvard, a PhD from the University of Michigan, and was even a junior Olympic diver. He is just a great guy.

I wanted to start with one of my favorite quotes from Epictetus, which I think connects nicely with the new book.

He says, it's impossible to learn that which you think you already know.

And so for the Stoics, the sort of the main impediment to knowledge and growth was not ignorance or stupidity. It was conceit.

It was sort of that if you think you already know everything in a sense, you're right because you can't learn anything else, especially that you might be wrong about something.

As with pretty much everything else, the Stoics nailed it.

I love it.

Yeah, I mean, that seems like a big theme of the new book is that basically sort of ego is this thing that prevents us from getting better because it just gets in the way.

Yeah, I think somebody even say that ego is the enemy.
