Hello and welcome to football with Grant Wall. I started out that sentence as a way of honoring our friend Darrell Grove.

For more than a decade, Darrell has been the host with Taylor Rockwell of the Total Soccer

Show, which for me is the gold standard for soccer podcasts in the United States.

Darryl is one of the kindest, most talented, and hardest working people I've met in sports media, and he has always had an infectious enthusiasm and curiosity about this sport we all love.

Darl and Taylor have made me laugh and made me cry and everything in between listening to their show over the years

and it has been my good fortune that I've gotten to know them personally as well. When I lost my job

earlier this year and wanted to start my own podcast, Darrell and Taylor were the people

I wanted to partner with and

Darryl and Taylor welcomed me and gave their time to this

podcast on and off the air at a moment when they had a lot going on in their lives. For Darrell that has meant

dealing with a cancer diagnosis and spending a lot of time with his wife Shannon

making trips from their home in Richmond, Virginia to Boston over the past couple

years to participate in a clinical trial.

This past weekend, Taylor informed us that Darrell had gone on hospice care at home after his doctors told him there was nothing more they could do to treat him.

This is devastating for Darrell and his family and for Taylor and and his family and I just want to say how much I love

you guys and hope Darryl is as pain-free as possible and I am thinking about all of

you right now.

Darryl and Taylor have had a huge impact on the American soccer community

and that includes other emerging soccer media people.

My interview guest on this episode is Adam Bells who co-host

the Scuffed Soccer Podcast. Adam tells a story about how he got started and how

Darryl Grove was a big part of encouraging that start.
