I'm John Mattson with Gregory Copley, my friend and colleague.

We go to the Middle East because there is a new president-elect in the United States,

and Bibi Netanyahu looks upon President Trump, former President Trump, now President

elect Trump, that someone he has worked with before.

The question is what is to be done?

And one of the major left undone from the first Trump administration was the Abraham Accords

bringing in Saudi Arabia.

Gregory, we just have a few minutes.

Is that too utopian to imagine that can happen while the warfighting is going on?

No, it is not.

The problem is getting Saudi Arabia into the Abraham Accords in a way which does not distort

Israeli or Western policies towards the greater Middle East.

Saudi Arabia is anxious to build its case for consolidation so that it can continue a war against Yemen,

which has been reduced in PR terms to the war against the Houthi rebels,

which as we've discussed on this program before, is not the case.

The Yemenis are rightly concerned that a renewal of the, or an opening of the Abraham Accords

to include Saudi Arabia would widen the war against Yemen.

Yemen is not a natural partner for Iran, for example, despite the fact that people say that some of the Yemenis

are Shia Muslims. They're not the same sort of Shia Muslims as those in Iran itself. So one of the

things which President Trump is going to have to do now is rebuild all of the Abraham Accords, and you know that in the last 24 hours he has been consistently on the telephone with a number of world leaders, including Bibi and Netanyahu and others, to bring some sense of order back into the existing August accords with countries such as Morocco, Sudan and the like,

and the UAE, Bahrain, so on, but also so that it doesn't get into an unstable situation against Iran.
