goal with this show. Complete knowledge of time and space. And on the road to complete knowledge

0:47.9

of time and space, we have today's questions. We have Tom S. and at Abguntha via email and Twitter, respectively, asking about metallic hydrogen with several question marks after that.

1:00.8

We have Andres Del C via YouTube.

1:03.2

Could you please talk more about liquid metallic hydrogen?

1:05.9

And we have Colin E via email.

1:07.9

What's inside Jupiter?

1:09.5

And how did it get there?

1:12.2

Metallic hydrogen.

1:13.3

Okay, I need to take a few steps back.

1:15.8

Let's talk about phases of matter.

1:18.1

Good old phases of matter.

1:19.3

We're used to thinking of things very simply.

1:21.7

Solid, liquid, gas.

1:24.4

And transforming from one phase to another is very easy. Like take water. Take some solid water,

1:33.8

aka ice, add some heat to it, add some temperature, increase its temperature, and it becomes a liquid.

1:40.1

Then add some more heat and it becomes a gas.

1:45.7

Okay, so that's pretty easy.

1:50.6

If I want to take a material and change its phase from one thing to another,

1:53.5

I just need to add heat or subtract heat.
