Good morning and thanks for joining me for Rise and Crime, your morning caffeine hit All About Crime.

I'm Mama Jules, and we have three cases today, and I first has me feeling a little bit relieved.

It's the case of Aaron Spencer, the father who killed his daughter's alleged abuser.

A judge laid down a major ruling about those murder charges, and we're going to review the case,

and then I'll let you in on all of the new ruling. Then, after that one, we're going to do a civil

case. It's been settled in California with a massive payout for the deaths of

two young boys. And finally, a Virginia jury may soon have to decide whether mashed potatoes

were merely a side dish or a million and a half dollar main course. All right, let's get into it.

That significant development that has

occurred in the Aaron Spencer case. Now, I've covered this case multiple times on rise in crime,

but it's been evolving for nearly two years, and there's a lot of moving parts here. We have

allegations involving a child, then a 67-year-old defendant who was out on bond. We've also got a father

who says he was trying to protect his daughter. We've got a murder charge, a sheriff's race,

two different judges, missing evidence, and now that ruling in that trial. The events that led to

the shooting began during the summer of
