The rain tapped softly against the windows, a rhythmic soothing sound that made the warmth of the living

room feel even cozier. Wrapped in a plush blanket, I snuggled closer to him on the couch, the soft glow of the TV

lighting up the room in flickers. Some romantic comedy I'd chosen was playing, but the plot had long

since faded into the background. Gerald's arm was draped around my shoulders, strong and steady,

and I could feel the even rise and fall of his chest as he breathed. Every so often,

I glanced up at him, catching the way his eyes softened when he looked at me. It made my heart flutter every time.

Mmm, this is nice. I murmured my voice quiet, content. He glanced down at me, a small smile

tugging at the corners of his lips. It is. It's a perfect way to end the day.

I turned slightly, meeting his warm gaze. You're just saying that because I let you pick

dessert earlier. His laugh rumbled softly, and I felt it vibrate through me. Hey, I earned that cheesecake,

besides you ate most of it. I laughed, nudging him playfully. It was good. You can't blame me for that.

His grin widened, and I couldn't help but smile back.

I loved how easy it was with him.

How we could tease each other like this and still feel completely in sync.

I shifted closer, resting my hand on his beneath the blanket.

His fingers laced through mine,

almost instinctively, his thumb brushing lightly over my knuckles. I love this, I said softly,

letting my head fall back to his shoulder. Just being with you.

He pressed a kiss to the top of my head, his lips lingering for a moment.

I love it too, he said.

The room felt like it had its own little bubble of peace,
