Obviously, this is a speech that was highly anticipated, and there were a number of different signs beforehand.

The Democrats were planning to protest it in many different ways.

And sure enough, they didn't wait long to get started, with Al Green waving his cane at the

president having to be forcibly removed from the chamber.

In addition to this, there were, of course, so many other different acts of protests, people

holding up paddles with different things on them,

apparently still unaware in this day and age of how Photoshop works, people walking out while wearing

resist t-shirts during the president's speech when he was talking about eggs, of all things,

and many people sitting on their hands when refusing to stand up to applaud even for very popular elements of the speech, which seem to me to be completely apolitical.

The thing to understand about Trump in this second term is how loose and how relaxed he is.

He seems to be having fun in a way he was not in his first term. He feels like he has

survived the most vicious attacks on him. He feels like he has come through the legal threat

to his life and to his livelihood in a way that has freed him to be his full self.

And I think that that's something that came across in this speech, which meandered at

time was perhaps a little disorganized, but also was the same kind of theatrical Americana

that we've come to expect from the way that Trump approaches events like this.
