Summary

It's book club week and this month we're talking about A Special Place for Women by Laura Hankin. Capturing start-up culture can be a hit or miss, and we really think Laura Hankin got it right in this book. A Special Place for Women follows a daring reporter who infiltrates an exclusive female-run members club, whose members are far more powerful than she imagined.

We also talk about not knowing what's next, Becca's Sweater status, and Grace's accidental trespassing adventure.

Hi everyone, welcome to Bad on Paper Podcast. I'm Becca Freeman and I'm Grace Atwood and

0:23.0

it's Book Club and I am really excited. Before we pressed record, I was just talking about

0:28.7

how much I enjoyed rereading this book and I'm excited. It's a fun book. I have so much to say

0:38.1

about it so I don't want to start talking about it now but we'll get into it. Well let's do a quick

0:42.9

highs and lows and then let's talk about this book. Yes. What's your high? Can I go backwards because I

0:49.8

think that in order to understand my high I have to say my low first. Okay. So my low is that I feel

0:57.9

like I'm kind of stewing in uncertainty which is incredibly dramatic. I realize that I just

1:06.7

am feeling a tremendous amount of uncertainty around what is next for rom compods and just

1:14.6

everything associated with that. So to back up in the spring we were working on two shows simultaneously.

1:24.0

I know I've been dangling this secret show for so long and I really hope that I can tell you what it

1:28.4

is soon but I'm gonna stop trying to predict when I can do that because I keep being wrong. The

1:34.3

latest is that it's gonna come out in January and I think that date is going to stick so I should

1:40.4

be able to tell you soon. But anyway in the spring I was working on those two shows simultaneously,

1:45.7

showmance in this new show and I was so busy then the summer came and I was like oh how nice

1:53.9

that I'll have a little bit of a break after we're done with the heavy lifting of like writing

1:58.5

and casting and recording. And you know I've said that I have a lighter client load right now so I've

2:03.8

just kind of been you know taking it easy and you know it didn't strike me as weird that things are

2:11.5

slow over the summer just because you know people go on vacations and I feel like summer slow in a

2:16.6

lot of industries. And I just I really thought that by September October I would know what my next

2:23.4

project is and I don't and you know we're at this point where we can't self-fund rom compods anymore

2:30.4

so we need we need partnership and money from other people to do it so we're pitching and we have

2:36.6

a lot of meetings and you know the meetings take so long to schedule and you know we've had a couple
