0:13.1	So we're back in Second Samuel today, but that's not exactly where we're going to start our time together.
0:18.3	We're going to start with Jesus and see how he helps us understand the significance of what David does in 2 Samuel 8. Let's pray and ask God to help us learn.
0:28.0	Lord, we ask you to open your word to us so that we might understand it, and we ask you to open our
0:34.3	heart that we might be transformed by your word. Amen. Okay, put yourself in the
0:41.1	first century. You've heard about Jesus. He's the teacher, the miracle worker, everybody's talking
0:46.1	about, but you've never personally heard him teach. But now you know that he's going to be
0:51.9	near your town. And so you want to go out with some of your friends
0:55.2	and actually hear him for yourself. What do you think he's going to talk about? You might say,
1:01.2	well, I expect Jesus to share ethical truth. Truths like love your neighbor, love your enemy,
1:07.1	don't lust or don't be angry, treat others as you want them to treat you. Or you might say that you expect Jesus to share a lot of stories called parables. He has some really famous ones, like the parable of the prodigal son or the parable of the Good Samaritan. But nowhere does the Bible ever summarize Jesus' ministry as he goes from town to town teaching ethical truths,
1:29.7	or he goes from town to town teaching parables? Instead, what it says is that Jesus announced the
1:35.5	kingdom of God. Here's Mark 115. The time has come, Jesus said. The kingdom of God has come near.
1:43.1	Repent and believe the good news. Here's Luke 4. But Jesus said, the kingdom of God has come near, repent, and believe the good news.
1:45.7	Here's Luke 4. But Jesus said, I must proclaim the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also,
1:52.3	because that is why I was sent. Here's Luke 8. After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and
1:59.5	village to another proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God.
2:03.6	What did Jesus do? Well, he came to announce the kingdom of God.
2:07.7	Now, let's stay with this, but let's add another important fact.
2:11.9	This time we go to what the angels said to Mary when he told her that she was pregnant with the Messiah.
