Summary

Hey y’all, welcome back to the Roots and Refuge Podcast! This week we’re continuing the conversation we started last time—shifting from understanding the nervous system to really choosing to slow down and live simply. In this episode, I’m sharing what it means to build a slower life on purpose and how the richness of presence can change everything. We talk about romanticizing the everyday, practicing gratitude, and letting peace take root in our routines. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by hustle culture or longed for a quieter, more meaningful way of living, this one’s for you.

Thank you for spending time with me today. If you’ve found encouragement here, consider supporting the podcast on Patreon, where you can listen early and join our monthly Q&A.

As always— I bless you, until next time.

The podcast that was published last week is called A Sound Mind, Fight or Flight in a Scary World.

1:07.1

And I started that podcast intending to talk about intentionally slowing down, like living a slower life.

1:14.7

And I started to discuss our nervous system and the effect that that has on our overall sense of well-being and how so often we can kind of get hijacked by our nervous system.

1:28.0

And if we don't realize what's going on, it doesn't matter how much we try to intentionally

1:32.1

slow down. We'll be struggling against ourselves within our own body. So if you haven't listened to

1:37.5

that episode, that's a really good precursor. Because today I'd like to make the other points I meant

1:41.9

to make last week. That just got a little long. so I decided to conclude it and make a part two. This is that. Today, talking about intentionally

1:51.6

slowing down, I think that you kind of have to address that biological aspect of your

1:57.9

actual nervous system wiring and your chemical makeup because it obviously sets

2:03.8

a foundation for the choices that you want to make for your life but the topic of slowing down

2:10.5

is one that is incredibly dear to my heart and I feel like it is something that I have experienced in phases.

2:19.7

I personally have experienced in my life. Maybe it's not like this for everybody, but I have

2:25.5

really experienced almost like a gravitational pull towards busyness. In our current culture,
