Hey everybody, it's me, Steven, all the way out in Flagstaff, Arizona.

It's been three weeks since I got my throat surgery, and I thought I'd give you a quick update.

First of all, how do you like my new post-surgery voice? I thought it might sound different, but this is ridiculous.

Ha ha, gotcha. This is just a computer voice named, Evan, reading what I am typing.

This has been my life lately, trying to figure out creative ways to communicate while I recover.

Evan can be pretty annoying, so I'll keep this short. Sorry Evan, but it's true.

First of all, the surgery went really well. The disgusting growth was cut out of my throat

without any complications. I will tell you more about my feelings about going under with anesthesia when we record our next episode. Spoiler alert, I was not into it. Anyway, they sent me some before and after pictures of my throat, and the growth in there was truly huge. They are gross, but pretty helpful in understanding why my life was so disrupted.

Secondly, I have good news from pathology.

The biopsy came back clear of cancer.

I was trying not to be worried about this possibility, but it was hard for me not to be completely

V. Recovery has been hard, rougher than I'd hoped. Being silent for a month sounded kind of fun at first, but it hasn't been. I feel a bit disconnected, very listless, and I just wish it was over. I have learned a lot

kind of done with this. I have been saying a sentence or two once an hour this past week to try

to get my voice warmed up again, but that has been a delicate balancing act. Several times I have overdone it and have experienced a lot of pain.
