We are witnessing something truly unprecedented in Washington this week,

the return triumphantly of Donald Trump,

a president who had everything thrown at him on leaving office and fought back through it to regain the White House. It's something that we should pause and appreciate because of how incredible the storyline truly is.

And from my perspective, it's not just a story about politics, but one about American culture

as well, and an interesting one when you think of all the lessons that people gained

from the experience, first of having Donald Trump win in a chaotic and surprising fashion

over the forces of the American political establishment, both in Republican and Democratic politics,

followed by the reinstitution of that same establishment,

albeit through a weakened figurehead in the form of Joe Biden,

one who seriously was not capable of fulfilling the job

at this point in his career. The way that you saw

this play out over the course of the past four years was in the form of a staff-led and driven

policy agenda on the part of Joe Biden that really had nothing in common with his prior political

career. He had always been a partisan, but his status as a moderate or centrist on most issues

was pretty well cemented in the minds of the American people prior to his rising to the presidency.

He was viewed as an asset for Barack Obama for exactly those reasons.
