And rather than talk about a court case or illegal issues today, I wanted to spend a little bit of time remembering a prior Christmas.

When our country was fighting a bloody war against some of the worst tyrants in history,

and American soldiers were in combat far from

their families who were at home during these hallowed celebrations. We should remember those warriors,

those citizen soldiers, especially since many gave the last full measure of their lives to

fight for freedom and to liberate the many who were

suffering and who were under those terrible despots.

So today we're going to talk about the battered bastards of Bastone, which was the nickname

given to the 101st Airborne and other soldiers who 81 years ago

were besieged by German forces over Christmas during the Battle of the Bulge in the Belgian

city of Bastogne and outnumbered. The estimates I've seen are anywhere from four to five to one.
