Hello, welcome to a good read where I'm joined this week by the scientist,

Dr Maggie Adair in Pocock,

and the musician and record producer William Orbit.

William's widely known as a super producer.

He left school at 15 and spent the next few years working in factories, breweries, hotel, kitchens.

But then he met Laurie Mayer and with her formed the experimental band Torch Song.

From there, he went on to build a career on the cutting edge of music,

recording his strange cargo albums and working with a range of artists from Andreas Scholl via Blur to the Sugar Babes.

With Madonna, he made the multi-Grammy award-winning album Ray of Light.

And this year, he co-wrote and co-produced six tracks for her new album, MDNA.

He's currently halfway through his first autobiographical book.

William, good to have you on the programme.
