0:49.8	jobs he could to try and make ends meet. At some point in his life, while working as a truck
0:55.7	driver, Michael suffered from a back injury that forced him off the road. And feeling both the
1:01.6	immense financial pressure to succeed and the growing pain he was suffering, he began smoking marijuana
1:07.9	for some relief. Looking for something to give him strength beyond the
1:12.4	physical, Michael soon found himself a part of the Christian identity movement. An organization
1:18.7	that the Southern Poverty Law Center describes as, quote, a unique anti-Semitic and racist
1:25.1	theology that rose to a position of commanding influence on the racist
1:29.6	right in the 1980s.
1:32.2	Attending the rallies of James Wickstrom, Michael learned the basic laws of the identity movement,
1:38.4	and, according to court documents, was taught by the leader himself what is known as the
