You are about to listen to a BBC podcast and I'd like to tell you a bit about what goes into making one.

I'm Sadata Sese, an assistant commissioner of podcasts for BBC Sounds.

The only business there's more money in than the drug business is the weapon industry.

So there's very, very lots of money to be made in dealing arms.

It is 2017 and an arms deal is underway in a basement somewhere in North Korea.

So when we were down there, I just said, I think we're wasting each other's time.

Either you have something you want me to invest in or not.

That was the flipping point and the whole thing changed. And they came up with this entire list.

Ballistic Scott missiles, 1,350 kilometers range, air-to-air missiles, I mean, you name it.

At the table is the head of an arms factory, a few men who look like intelligence officers,

and then there's a glamorous Danish investor

wearing a sharp suit. He's known only as Mr. James. There is money to be made here,

and the only thing standing in their way is a long list of UN sanctions. To get weapons out

of North Korea, it can't be done, but it takes a lot of planning.

And so an agreement is struck.

A secret weapons factory is to be built on a private island thousands of miles away.

Mr. James will provide the cash, North Korea the expertise.
