Anybody in my community knows the place that my friends hold in my life is so high.

And I just think when I'm at the end of my life and I look back on it and try to pluck

out the true highlights.

My relationships with my friends will be literally in the top two.

I'm Kelly Corrigan and today I'm wondering about adult friendships, the very old friends

who knew us growing up, our college buddies, the parents we watch soccer or baseball with,

the ones from work, book club, or that marathon we trained for.

Today is the second of a four-part series with writer, activist and community leader Jen

Hatmaker, a friend who helps me think about what makes friendship work and not work

and strain at the seams.

She's an author, a community organizer, a volunteer who rallies her enormous community

of followers to rise up and take charge.

She's also a newly single mother of five who relies heavily on a network of sisters

and girlfriends to make her life work.
