Kicking us off this week is a conversation I had with fiddle player Janay Fleener,

whom you may have seen as a member of the house band on NBC's The Voice, as well as on tour

with stars like Blake Shelton, Martina McBride, and Rascal Flats. As Jenae began to learn

her instrument as a kid, her dad challenged himself to learn along with her, making for some long-lasting

memories.

So what did your folks do when you were growing up?

My dad was actually retired when I was born, and mom retired by the time I was, I think,

10 years old or so, but they worked at the VA in medical records. So dad took care of me when I was really little. He sat me in front of

Sesame Street while mom went to work. And basically every weekend, I started playing violin

when I was three years old. So every weekend was music involved. We'd go to talent shows and

bluegrass festivals. And we always had a a camper so every weekend we were going to all
