What I think is really exciting about birding is that going out and even looking for the common birds, you're keeping an eye out for just about anything.

It's Thursday, December 14th, and today, like every day, is Science Friday.

But it's also the first day of this year's Christmas bird count.

I'm Cyfry producer Shishana Bucksbaum.

For over a century birders all over the country have been

tallying their local bird population and reporting their findings to the National

Audubon Society. Ira Flato and Floraikman talked with two expert birders

and took listener calls during our annual celebration

of the Christmas bird count.
