Summary

Graham Ruthven makes his triumphant (I'm assuming he was feeling triumphant) return to the show to discuss all things La Liga: top four contenders, the Messi-Koeman relationship, ideal replacements for Antoine Griezmann at Atletico Madrid (yes, this is still an issue), Real Madrid's potential depth concerns, and much much more! Plus, there's an American in La Liga, and possibly another to follow? What a strange strange world it is!

Hello,

0:02.0

Hello, everybody and welcome to the Total Soccer Show.

0:26.2

I'm your host, Taylor Rockwell.

0:27.9

And as the title of this episode has probably already told you, today I'm going to be talking to Graham Ruffin about all things La Liga.

0:35.0

Graham has lots of answers to lots of questions, including where will

0:38.5

Luis Suarez end up, why Real Madrid are not pursuing signings this summer, the snafu reality

0:43.8

of Barcelona, the most likely challenges for the top four and why Hatshafe are definitely

0:48.3

winning La Liga this season. You'll have to listen all the way through for that one to make

0:52.3

sense. But before we get to Graham, I wanted to talk about Daryl for a moment. If you're very new to the Total Soccer Show, my usual co-host, Daryl Grove and I started the show together back in 2009. It's been going strong ever since. However, Daryl has been living with a colon and liver cancer diagnosis since January of 2019, thereabouts. As some of you may know, he's been taking part in a clinical trial in Boston that has

1:14.2

been helping manage things.

1:15.3

Unfortunately, we've recently learned that the treatment is no longer working.

1:19.3

So he and his doctors are currently in the process of investigating new trials.

1:23.0

From my conversations with him, Daryl remains as strong and optimistic as ever, which is not surprising

1:28.4

given that that's how Daryl tends to be, but is still very impressive and pretty much just

1:33.4

amazing given what he and his wife Shannon have gone through the last, as I said, 20 or so months.

1:38.2

I know that some heavy news to get at the start of the show. We wanted to be transparent

1:41.8

about the situation, given that he wasn't on the program last

1:45.0

week. Probably won't be on it again this week. I should note that he's doing, again, as well as

1:49.6

can be expected, but isn't really checking Twitter or Facebook. So he appreciates all the

1:54.2

positivity and energy you might want to send, and you can just know that he likely maybe won't

1:59.5

be able to respond to each in every message

2:01.6

sent his way. That said, we are both extremely, extremely thankful for all the love and support
