Summary

During the seven weeks that followed, hundreds of officers interviewed thousands of men in what was then the most extensive murder inquiry the city had ever seen. 1:23.6	On February 9, 1960, a 27-year-old man named Patrick Joseph Byrne was brought to Warrington Police Station for routine questioning.
1:37.3	Almost two months had passed since Stephanie Baird's decapitated body was found in her room at the YWCA hostel in the Birmingham suburb of Edgeburston.
1:49.1	After providing a fingerprint sample, Byrne suddenly exclaimed that he had something to do with the killing.
1:57.9	Detective Sergeant George Wellborn found Byrne to be rational but upset at times during their conversation.
2:06.4	Birmingham City Police were contacted and at 1125pm the senior investigating officer
2:13.3	Detective Chief Superintendent James Horton arrived at the station to bring Byrne back to Birmingham for further questioning.
2:22.7	They travelled by car throughout the night,
2:25.7	arriving at the Speedwell Road Police Station in the early hours of the morning.
2:31.8	At 10.45 a.m. on February 10th, Byrne was brought into an interview room to be interrogated
2:38.6	by Detective Superintendent Bomber and Detective Chief Superintendent Horton. Burn was told that he would
2:46.3	be detained until the police could look into his movements at the time of the murder. He replied,
2:53.5	I cannot get it out of my mind. I want to help you all I can. I can draw you the room and
