Hello, everyone, and welcome to the Your Village podcast, Parenting Beyond Discipline,

0:09.2

the place to learn about all things parenting and get your questions answered.

0:13.4

I'm your host, Aaron Royer.

0:16.3

One of these days, I am going to record part of the podcast and put it up on my Instagram account so that you

0:21.9

guys can see me actually doing the podcast. But today is not that day because I'm sitting here

0:28.6

with drowned rat hair and in my swim parka. So I'm not going to do that today. But today,

0:36.6

1:15.0

Really, it already is pretty overwhelming as it is.

1:17.7

So they have this uncanny ability, well, most of them, except for those like my firstborn,

1:22.9

to tune out a lot of the sights and sounds of the world around them and just sleep through almost

1:28.4

anything. So when it comes to newborn sight, they can really only see clearly things that are one to two

1:35.3

inches from their faces. But sight and hearing develop quickly, and by the time baby is four months

1:41.4

old, he can now see clearly up to 13 inches from his face.

1:45.3

Hearing and sight are the first two areas of the brain to finish development, and there's a reason.

1:50.7

Babies need good hearing to start learning and understanding language.
