0:00.0	How might child rearing look different if parents were educated in evolutionary theory?
0:07.7	Well, I think quite a few ways.
0:11.1	Probably the biggest one in one of the big themes in my book is that we used to live embedded in kinship networks.
0:22.1	So we had lots of different helpers, contributors,
0:27.6	helping us to raise our children.
0:30.4	You know, there are situations now where one parent,
0:35.6	usually a mother gets stuck with three kids in a home. And it's very
0:42.6	different from how things used to work back in the day. And it puts a lot of stress on everybody,
0:49.1	children, but parents, parents also. So that's a big thing. Kids, when they would go out to play and
0:58.1	run around, they would be in sort of mixed age groups. So they would have, if you were a three-year-old,
1:06.1	you'd have a seven-year-old there to learn from, and you might be helping a two-year-old. And so the,
1:15.2	sort of the independent child stuff would be different. So those are two of the big ways that
1:22.3	we've lived and we live now sort of in a mismatched environment.
1:28.5	What about, what does that say about broken homes or unentact homes, increasing single parent, step parent?
1:39.0	What are the implications of that when it comes to child development?
1:43.8	Yeah, I think it puts a lot of stress on
1:46.6	children. It also, you know, the human brain, the child's brain is very malleable, very, very
1:57.1	undeveloped when baby first appears on the scene. And when we change the environment,
2:04.6	the early environment that children are reared under, we sort of miss, I think, some of the cues
2:13.4	that lead to normal development.
2:19.9	Now, humans, if anything, we're, you know, we're flexible.
2:22.6	We can adapt to a lot of different things.
