A hostage deal between Israel and Hamas could come as soon as today.

That's according to two sources familiar with the talks who say Qatar

is hoping to announce an agreement soon. And US officials close to the

negotiations stress that while the deal isn't done yet and still has to be approved by the Israeli government,

they are increasingly optimistic and believe many weeks of difficult work are about to pay off.

CNN's M.J. Lee has more.

Under this deal, Hamas would release 50 women and children

hostages that the group is holding in Gaza,

and this would be in exchange for a pause in fighting of up to four to five days and

importantly three Palestinian prisoners we are told would be released by the

Israeli government for every hostage that is released.

So this is a three for one agreement.

Hostages, we are told, are of various nationalities.

We are told by US officials that three-year-old American toddler that the president himself has talked about is expected to be a part of the hostages release that is certainly what they are hoping for

An estimated 239 hostages are being held by Hamas in the Gaza Strip,

which has continued to be bombarded with airstrikes and largely cut off from the rest of the world.
