Hello from CNN, I'm Joe Beck, with the five things you need to know for Friday, October 13th.

As Israel's military calls for half of Gaza to evacuate, Hamas claims 13 of the people it's taken hostage have been killed in

airstrikes there. The terrorist group didn't give any details about who they are though, and

Israeli forces said they could not and would not confirm the

reports. And Israeli airstrikes are not letting up, with their military saying Hamas is using

civilians as shields by hiding in the densely populated strip.

The UN says the order for roughly 1.1 million people in northern Gaza

to evacuate to the south will be quote impossible without major humanitarian consequences.

People there have been cut off from access to water, food, electricity and medical aid and

and the World Health Organization says hospitals are quote at

breaking point.

Yusef Hamash works for the Norwegian Refugee Council and is in Gaza right now.

We are praying just to see the daylight again.

The situation here is unbearable.

I don't think that anyone on this planet can handle the situation here for one hour.

Hamas also continues to strike Israel, saying it fired rockets towards an airport as well as Israeli soldiers.

Officials across the world are gearing up for more pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian protests today.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams says that while there are no credible threats ahead of

today's expected demonstrations, authorities are taking precautions.

Our deployment is also not only to our synagogues that are high profile, but also many of the mosques that are high profile,

because we do not want anyone that comes with an extremist

mindset to attack any religious institution of house worship.
