It's been two years since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, ending the constitutional right to an abortion in the U.S.

We asked CNN's Lauren Mas Karanis to take a look at what's happened since the Dobbs decision.

Since the decision to overturn the right to an abortion nationally,

we've seen a fierce fight play out at the state level.

Fourteen states now have near or total abortion bans

and several others have adopted restrictive policies.

But the number and rate of abortions in 2023 hit its highest point in over a decade, according

to a report from the Guttmacher Institute.

They estimate there were more than 1 million abortions in the

U.S. last year, with about two-thirds of those being medication abortions.

Organizers across the country right now are working to get abortion measures

on ballots in November.

Several states including Florida, Colorado, Maryland and South Dakota

have already secured ballot measures so voters will have the opportunity

to weigh in on the issue themselves.

And the anniversary comes as we're waiting for the Supreme Court's ruling on medical emergency

exemptions to abortion bans, which could come any day now.

Reproductive rights are a huge election issue,

and President Joe Biden's campaign has organized more than 50 events today
