Tuesday, September 26. President Joe Biden will be the first sitting

president in modern history to visit a picket line today. He's heading to Wayne County

Michigan to show support for the United Auto Workers striking against Ford,

Stellantis, and General Motors. Biden told reporters in DC that he's quote

always supported the UAW.

The presidents have previously declined to wait into union disputes to avoid the

perception of taking sides including Biden himself.

CNN's Jeremy Diamond has more on why he chose this week to go.

One sign is that there's been progress in these talks and that's perhaps why the

president is choosing this moment now to go there, but it also shows this potential contrast with former

President Trump who is going to Michigan tomorrow to address current and

former union members. Now the White House officially denies that there is any

connection between the president's visit and the former president's plans to

deliver speech in Detroit tomorrow, but look at this White House fact sheet that

the White House released just this morning,

talking about the fact that former President Trump talked a big game, but did not deliver in the way

that President Biden has for union workers. The UAW President has hit back at Trump's visit, saying his union was

fighting the billionaire class and an economy that quote, enriches people like

Donald Trump at the expense of workers.
