Summary

It's late summer, 1853, in New Orleans. Marie-Grace and Cécile are
still in the thick of the Yellow Fever epidemic. Madame Océane is
fighting for her life. Thankfully, Marie-Grace is prepared to take on
wedding planning, performance art, nursing, and orphan caretaking.
Amidst all this, Marie-Grace's father has established a fool-proof
communication system using a single slate outside his door. What could
go wrong? Well, to quote Kris Jenner, "just a lot." Soon enough,
Marie-Grace fears that she will have to leave her beloved city along
with her family and friends. Thankfully, Dr. Tad/Dr. Dad continues his
neglect and Marie-Grace gets to stay. We consider the compressed
timeline of this series and recent feminist takes on scammers.

So we are in the throes of March Madness and sadly, I do not mean a competition about the March

Sisters. I believe there is basketball occurring. Is that correct? There is sure basketball is

occurring. It's our time. Okay, so it's Women's History Month. It won't be by the time you hear

0:15.6

this, but it is a Women's History Month eternal in our heart. That's right. So with that, I flipped

0:21.9

open this book, which is about Marie Grace ostensibly, but it got me thinking, what if from a sweet

0:28.1

16, we had a kind of March Madness final for just of characters from Marie Grace. Wow, that

0:36.4

truly is an elite eight, you might say. I don't know how many of them are in your top four.

0:41.2

Who Marie Grace? Yes, sadly no. So of her family and family is being defined very broadly here,

0:48.7

we have Argos, the dog, sister Beatrice, who I think doesn't know Marie Grace from a hole in the

0:54.9

wall, her friend Cecil Ray, Mademoiselle Oshan, who is, I would say, not family yet, but perhaps soon,

1:02.9

Levinia, who's not even a friend, Mrs. Curtis, Uncle Luke, and Papa, who's making that top four

1:10.3

of these nine? This is a really tough, this is a tough competition, and I just, you know,

1:17.6

this is I know who's your number one. Who's my number one? Mrs. Curtis with Sister Beatrice

1:24.0

in a close second, and I'm going to put Argos in fourth just because Papa's not even making top 10.

1:30.7

No, he sure not. I'm going to exclude Cecil, but she would be in my top four. I feel like if I'm

1:37.0

not having Marie Grace, it's unfair to have Cecil, like that's cruel. I'm going to take Levinia

1:42.3

for truly the most like from nowhere pointless cameo and just sort of queen behavior and miss

exclusive me from the narrative during the narrative. So I think that's somewhat iconic. So

1:53.2

I'm taking them as my top, my final four. I love it.

Well, welcome everyone to American Girls The Podcast. This is the podcast where we're
