As the Alaska season closes down, at least one ship left with passengers

receiving something a little extra. Yeah, that's right. It's a souvenir that nobody wants,

but I suspect pretty much everyone listening, if they've cruised a lot, has probably taken

home at some point, and that's a little bit of gastrointestinal discomfort.

According to the CDC, Royal Caribbean's Rhapsody of the Sea, had about 8% of the passengers,

and 3% of the crew fall ill during the ship's final sailing of the Alaska season.

I'm not great with math, but luckily the CDC does it for us, so we can say that

there were 2,172 guests on board, and of those 180 reported feeling ill, and three of the

894 crew members fell ill. So, you know, here's the thing. If this had happened on land, no one

would hear about it. You know, if my company got hit with this type of gastrointestinal

disease and it was that percentage of people. It was 8% of people. Nobody would know

anything about it. But as regular listeners know, the threshold for reporting to the CDC if you're a cruise ship is 3%.

So this was 8%. It was well above what, you know, the requirement that they report it to the CDC.
