Summary

Labour's cataclysmic by-election result in Hartlepool - and bad results in much of England and Scotland - has plunged the party into crisis. The party has been stripped of a vision - of any sense of what it stands for or who it stands for. Unless that changes, oblivion awaits.

What on earth did they expect? Labour went into an election with no vision, with no idea whatsoever

0:07.4

of what the party stands for, with no idea whatsoever of who the party represents, with no way

0:13.4

of allowing voters to answer the most basic fundamental question of all before they

0:18.8

traips to their local polling station, I would like to vote for the Labour Party because,

0:24.0

and you know what, enough of the excuses. They are pathetic. The fact that there are people

0:28.8

blaming Jeremy Corbyn for this catastrophe. Over a year since he stopped being leader of

0:34.5

the Labour Party, when he's not even in the Parliamentary Labour Party because he's been

This is on them, the fact that they have reduced the Labour Party to a party which doesn't stand

Fact, even in 2019, which I think we can all agree was a catastrophe for the Labour Party,

1:20.9

Labour still managed in Hartley Paul to get a higher share of the vote than they got in 2015,

1:25.5

and the Brexit Party got a lower share of the vote than you could got in 2015.

1:30.1

If Labour could win over leave voters in 2017 in Hartley Paul, when Brexit was a massive

1:37.5

dominant issue in British politics, then what on earth is Keir Starmer's excuse today?

1:41.5

Fact, oppositions are supposed to do better in a by-election than they would in a general election,

1:47.2

and indeed before this disaster, only twice in the last 50 years has an opposition party

1:53.7

lost to a governing party, and not as badly as this.

1:57.2

Now, Labour are currently going around telling people that the reason they haven't been
