Summary

At long last, we get to Meet Cécile! Ms. Cécile Rey comes from an elite Black family in New Orleans. She spends her time memorizing sonnets, getting singing lessons, and shopping. Cécile also loves her family, including her brother Armond (who is in Paris), her grandpère (who buys her pralines), and her Parrot (who keeps her humble). When Cécile meets Marie Grace, who has only recently moved to Louisiana from Massachusetts, it is not exactly an instant match. But soon enough, a friendship starts to blossom and some masks come off, so to speak. We discuss Cécile and Marie Grace's relationship, the dynamics within Cécile's family, and the segregation of social life in New Orleans during the 1850s.

We got something from the International Olympic Committee and they want us to award three gold medals.

So the three categories and we're only giving gold medals are

hat care, friendship and crisis management. So let's start with hat care of the following three

girls. Who are you giving the gold? Molly, Susiel or Hosephina? Oh, my God.

0:32.0

Wow, I'm going to give it to Hosephina. Um, so I'm breed to never forget. I still think about you,

girl. Molly's getting not even the bronze. She's an embarrassment. There's no bronze. There's no

0:44.4

bronze. Okay. For friendship, you have to choose between Addy, Kyrsten and Marie Grace and whether

0:52.0

their friends are still alive is not a determining factor. I'm giving Addy the gold.

0:59.5

No question. Fantastic. Our final category of crisis management, you have to choose between

1:05.1

Caroline, Kaya or Samantha. Wow, that's hard. I think I actually want to give it to Kyrsten

1:14.3

because I know she's not a nominee, but I do like her chaos and I do think it would bring

1:19.1

something to the table. That's fair. That's fair. We can switch categories. That works.

Welcome everyone to American Girls The Podcast. This is the show where we're reliving the American

Girl series book by book. I'm Mary. I'm still Allison still going for the gold or the silver or

whatever the committee chooses to give to me. Oh, wow. That's the way to get into the Olympics,

1:50.9

which I know that you're not watching, but these Olympics are some of the bleakest games these

eyes have seen. And I'm an Olympics person. I will watch even though it's incredibly fraught.

2:04.3

Like the Olympics to me are both mean like nothing and everything. It's like this is a meaningless

prize. And yet it's like I defy anyone to watch someone win a gold medal beyond the podium.

2:18.0

And they're playing the anthem for you. And it's like I choke up. I have nothing to do with this.

And I'm choking up. So that works for you in a way that say the national anthem in just
