written a new book and it's available now the book is called a river Avon

year the wildlife and History of Shakespeare's Avon.

And my dad is back on the podcast today to tell us all about it

and to discuss some of the themes and stories which he has written about.

This is his second book.

The first one which came out in 2020 was called Park Life A Year in the Wildlife of an Urban Park. He talked about that on this podcast in episode 690, as some of you may remember.

Well now he's written the sort of sequel to that book and so naturally we had to do a

podcast about it too. So this new book is all about a river called the

River Avon which flows through the middle of England very close to areas where I grew up

and where my parents still live and in the book dad uses this river and the path that it takes through the country as a way of

telling a range of stories about British history and wildlife.

And so those are the things that you will hear him talk about in this conversation.

First you'll get a bit of a history lesson as dad describes a few very

decisive battles that took place next to the banks of the river.

These battles represent key moments in British history,

including when the Romans took control of Celtic Britain in the first century, a medieval battle between the

king and the barons following the creation of Magna Carta in the 13th century, a battle during the Wars of the Roses

between the York's and Lancastrians in the 15th century,

and a battle that took place during the English Civil War in the 17th century

which would ultimately result in the execution of the king at the time and the establishment
